Campus Plan
Strong Schools, Strong Community, Bright Future.
Southpointe Academy is expanding and enriching its curricular and co-curricular offerings for students and families with additional specialist classrooms and amenities. Southpointe will be able to offer more courses from Kindergarten to Grade 12 as the only secular International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School south of the Fraser River, and enrich the strength of its athletics, arts, outdoor education and service-learning programs. The expansion will also provide more families in Delta with the option of sending their children to an independent school without taking the bus to Vancouver. The growth of Southpointe will serve local families' needs, enhance the local economy and enrich the overall community development of South Delta.
Southpointe Academy has successfully completed the pre-application phase of its Master Campus Plan building project with the Delta Planning Department. This phase involved an exhaustive site survey, geotechnical and traffic impact assessments, and reports from code, arborist and landscape architecture consultants, among others. Through this stage, the school was able to gather important information that informed its process with City Planners. The preparatory steps also enabled the school to incorporate early feedback into its design plans, ensuring that the upcoming development meets the expectations of all stakeholders.
Southpointe Academy submitted its Development Variance Permit (DVP) application to the City of Delta on May 24. The School is requesting a height variance for the new building from 71 feet to 110 feet. The proposed expansion campus will be located behind the existing school on land owned by Southpointe Academy under the Tsawwassen Independent School Society (TISS).
The expansion campus is designed to feature 26 new classrooms, including science labs, art, multi-media and music studios, collaboration hubs, a fitness centre and a double gymnasium. With over 70,000 square feet of academic space being built, Southpointe Academy will be able to accommodate up to 850 students. The new building will also offer additional world-leading programs that foster creative, critical, and collaborative thinking among students.
Southpointe Academy is proud to be working once again with Kevin Hanvey, the Vice President and Lead Architect from Omicron, on the design and construction of the new building. Mr. Hanvey and Omicron previously collaborated with the school to design and build the current main campus, which opened in January 2012. The school is confident that this partnership will ensure the new building is complementary to the surrounding area, functional and visually attractive, offering an optimal learning environment for students.
